What Makes the MLS® Laser Different?

The MLS® (Multiwave Locked System) laser is a unique type of Class IV laser that uses a patented technology to deliver synchronized wavelengths of light into the body.
Unlike traditional lasers that emit a single wavelength, the MLS® laser combines:

  • 808 nm infrared wavelength – known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-swelling effects
  • 905 nm infrared wavelength – known for pain relief and nerve modulation

These wavelengths are delivered together in a precisely timed, locked emission pattern, allowing them to work synergistically for greater therapeutic benefit—without producing damaging heat.

In addition, we utilize an attached handheld laser device that includes a 650 nm red wavelength, which can be applied for more targeted or surface-level applications when appropriate.

How MLS® Laser Therapy Works

Laser energy penetrates deeply into the tissue and is absorbed by cells, where it stimulates the mitochondria—the cell’s energy producers. This process increases ATP (cellular energy), allowing cells to function more efficiently and repair themselves faster.

The result is improved circulation, reduced inflammation, decreased pain, and accelerated healing—without medications or invasive procedures.

Benefits of MLS® Laser Therapy

MLS® Laser Therapy offers a wide range of therapeutic benefits, including:

  • Reduced inflammation and swelling
Helps decrease edema by improving blood flow and activating lymphatic drainage.
  • Pain relief
Calms irritated nerves, reduces pain signaling to the brain, and promotes the release of natural pain-relieving chemicals such as endorphins.
  • Accelerated tissue repair
Increases cellular energy, allowing damaged tissues to heal faster and more efficiently.
  • Improved circulation and vascular health
Encourages the formation of new capillaries, improving oxygen and nutrient delivery to injured tissue.
  • Improved nerve function
Supports nerve regeneration and communication, which may help reduce numbness and nerve-related pain.
  • Reduced scar tissue formation
Helps limit excessive fibrous tissue buildup following injury or surgery.
  • Improved metabolic activity
Enhances enzyme activity and cellular oxygen utilization.
  • Support for trigger points and acupuncture points
Provides non-invasive stimulation for muscle tension and pain relief.
  • Immune system support
Stimulates immune cells and supports healthy inflammatory responses.
  • Faster wound and post-surgical healing
Encourages collagen production and tissue regeneration.

What Conditions Is the MLS® Laser Used For?

The MLS® laser is commonly used for:

  • Back and neck pain
  • Joint pain (knees, shoulders, hips, elbows, ankles)
  • Arthritis and degenerative joint conditions
  • Muscle strains and ligament sprains
  • Tendonitis and bursitis
  • Sports injuries
  • Post-surgical recovery
  • Chronic inflammatory conditions

Because of its depth and power, the MLS® laser is especially helpful for deeper joints, muscles, and spinal conditions.

How the MLS® Laser Fits Into Laser Stacking

In many cases, the MLS® laser is used in combination with our other laser systems, including the Erchonia FX 405 and Erchonia GVL lasers.

When stacked with additional wavelengths, the MLS® laser helps stimulate deeper tissues while other lasers support surface-level and systemic cellular responses. This combined approach allows us to support healing more completely at the cellular level.

Dr. Karan determines whether the MLS® laser is used alone or as part of a stacked laser protocol based on your condition, comfort level, and healing goals.

What to Expect During Treatment

  • Treatments are comfortable and non-invasive
  • Most patients feel little to no sensation
  • There is no downtime—patients can return to normal activities immediately

Personalized Care at Foothills Chiropractic

Laser therapy is not one-size-fits-all. Dr. Karan evaluates each patient individually to determine:

  • Whether MLS® laser therapy is appropriate
  • Whether it should be combined with other lasers
  • The ideal treatment frequency and duration

Our goal is always to use the right technology, at the right time, for the right condition.
