Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)

Advanced, Non-Invasive Healing Technology

At Foothills Chiropractic, laser therapy is one of our most powerful and frequently used treatment tools. We utilize Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)—also known as cold laser or photobiomodulation—to help reduce pain, decrease inflammation, and accelerate the body’s natural healing processes.

Laser therapy is safe, non-invasive, and drug-free, making it an excellent option for patients dealing with both acute injuries and complex, chronic conditions.

Low Level Laser Therapy treatment

What Is Low Level Laser Therapy?

Low Level Laser Therapy uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate activity within the body at a cellular level. When applied to injured or inflamed tissue, laser energy penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the cells, triggering biological responses that support healing from the inside out.

These responses may include:

  • Increased cellular energy (ATP production)
  • Improved circulation and oxygen delivery
  • Reduced inflammation
  • Accelerated tissue repair
  • Pain reduction without masking symptoms

Rather than forcing change, laser therapy works by enhancing the body’s own ability to heal.

What Conditions Can Laser Therapy Help?

  • Back pain and neck pain
  • Joint pain (shoulders, knees, hips, elbows, wrists, ankles)
  • Arthritis and degenerative joint conditions
  • Sports injuries and overuse injuries
  • Muscle strains and ligament sprains
  • Tendonitis and plantar fasciitis
  • Neuropathy and nerve-related pain
  • Chronic inflammation and slow-healing conditions
  • Pre-surgical preparation and post-surgical healing

Laser therapy may be used on its own or combined with chiropractic care, rehabilitation, massage therapy, and nutritional support for optimal results.

Low Level Laser Therapy vs. LED Light Therapy

Not all light-based therapies are the same.

Low Level Laser Therapy uses coherent, focused laser light that penetrates deeper into tissues and delivers a precise therapeutic dose of energy. This allows laser therapy to directly influence muscles, joints, nerves, and connective tissue.

LED light therapy, while helpful for superficial applications such as skin health, uses non-coherent light that does not penetrate as deeply or produce the same cellular response.

In simple terms:

  • Laser therapy: deeper penetration, higher precision, stronger therapeutic effect
  • LED therapy: surface-level treatment with lower energy output

At Foothills Chiropractic, we use true medical-grade laser systems, not LED substitutes.

Why We Use Multiple Laser Systems

No two patients—and no two conditions—are exactly alike. That’s why we’ve invested in multiple laser technologies, each with unique strengths and applications.

  • Customize treatment depth and intensity
  • Address both acute and chronic conditions
  • Treat a wider range of tissues effectively
  • Tailor care based on patient comfort and healing response

Laser Stacking: A More Complete Cellular Approach

In many cases, we take laser therapy a step further by using multiple lasers at the same time—a technique known as laser stacking.

Laser stacking allows us to deliver multiple therapeutic wavelengths simultaneously, creating a more complete and powerful biological response than using any single laser alone.

Laser therapy stimulates the mitochondria—the energy-producing structures inside your cells. Mitochondria create energy through a process called the electron transport chain, which relies on several interconnected complexes to produce ATP.

Each complex responds best to specific wavelengths of light.

GVL laser combined with other laser systems

Why We Combine the GVL With Other Lasers

We frequently pair our Erchonia GVL (Green & Violet Laser) with either:

  • The Cutting Edge MLS Class IV Red Laser
  • The Erchonia FX 405 Class II Red & Violet Laser

Each laser delivers specific wavelengths that target different parts of the mitochondrial energy system. When used together, they create a synergistic effect, meaning the combined benefit is greater than using each laser individually.

  • Treat surface-level and deeper tissues simultaneously
  • Address acute pain and chronic conditions more efficiently
  • Support localized healing and systemic cellular health

Why Laser Stacking Is More Effective Than Single-Laser Therapy

Using a single laser can be helpful. Using stacked lasers is more complete.

Single-wavelength treatments stimulate only part of the cellular healing pathway. Laser stacking helps ensure the entire energy cascade is activated, allowing cells to respond more efficiently and consistently.

This is why many patients experience:

  • Faster improvement
  • Better treatment tolerance
  • More lasting results
